|General Info||A journey on The Ghan is an incomparable way to travel to the two jewels of Australia's Northern Territory – the Red Center and the tropical Top End. No journey aboard The Ghan is complete without taking in both of these must-see destinations. The Ghan's timetable makes the most of the daylight hours to offer unsurpassed views of the passing landscape. From the sweeping Adelaide Plains unfolding before your eyes to the majestic Flinders Ranges, this first stage of the journey offers a perspective on South Australia you simply can't afford to miss. Each new day begins with a fresh panorama of this changing landscape. Red earth and cobalt blue skies – the essence of Central Australia takes on a character of its own with every passing hour. Leave the train in Alice Springs to tour locations close to Australia’s heart with Off Train Excursions. These tours, which last from a few hours to a few days, include an extraordinary range of opportunities for discovering the region’s most fascinating sites. Entering the Top End, the landscape mellows with subtropical flora staking its claim over the passing scenery. Off Train Excursions in the northern town of Katherine offer you the opportunity to experience the inspiring wonders of Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) before your rail journey concludes in tropical Darwin, the relaxed capital city of Australia's Northern Territory.|
|Itinerary||Day 1 | Welcome check-in and relax in the Outback Explorer Lounge up to 90 minutes prior to departure, enjoy a welcome drink, meet your host and fellow travelers prior to departing from Adelaide. After marveling at the passing landscape, enjoy an intimate dinner that reflects the regional prodcue and flavors before heading to your cabin for a comfortable nights sleep.
Day 2 | Enjoy breakfast at your leisure, either in the privacy of yoru cabin in among fellow guests in the dining car. Then arrive in Alice Springs, your Platinum and Gold off- train excursions include a choice of Alice Springs Desert Park, Alice Explorer, Pyndan Camel Tracks or upgrade your option to the Spirit of Mount Gillen Helicopter Flight. After departing Alice Springs, enjoy a fabulous dinner in one of the dining cars, before retiring to your cabin.
Day 3 | Enjoy breakfast prior to your early morning arrival in Katherine. Here your off-train excursion options including Nitmiluk Gorge Cruise, Nitmiluk First Gorge Rock Art CruiseThe Ghan Cultural Experience or upgrade to a helicopter flight over Nitmiluk Gorge or athe Twin Parks Fixed Wing Scenic Flight. Depart Katherine and enjoy the sights as you head for your final destintion. Enjoy a leisure lunch or early dinner prior to your arrival in Darwin.

Platinum Service includes luxurious accommodations, elegant dining in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant Car, daily breakfast, onboard lunches and a la carte dinners, cabin steward to assist with all your needs, complimentary nightcap and turndown service, tea/coffee delivered each morning, in-cabin dining, and select off-train excursions in each destination.
Gold Service includes sleeper cabins with either twin or single sleeping berths, meals in the stylish Restaurant Car, daily breakfast, on-board lunches and a la carte dinners, select beverages, cabin steward assistance, complimentary toiletries kit, tea/coffee during your journey, complimentary minibar and select off-train excursions.
Red Service include recliner lounge-style chairs with ample leg room, travel pillows and blankets, acess to the Red Service Diner offering meals, snacks and beverages for purchase.

|Food and Dining||Outback Explorer Lounge a short stroll from your sleeper carriage is the cozy, club-like Outback Explorer Lounge. Often the center of activity on the journey, the lounge is ideal for socializing with your fellow travellers from around the globe, relaxing, reading or just enjoying the picturesque scenery.
Queen Adelaide Restaurant Car for Platinum and Gold Service guests is this classically-styled dining car. Each meal offers a choice of fine food, carefully prepared for you by our onboard chefs. Our seasonal menu features mouth-watering dishes such as saltwater barramundi and grilled kangaroo fillet.
Matilda Cafefor our Red Service guest. This is a great place to take in the ever-changing view from the panoramic windows, or perhaps enjoy a drink or two while socializing with friends, new or old. The Diner offers affordable and tasty light meals, snacks and drinks for purchase.
In-cabin service is available during select times of the day.
|Cabins||Platnium Service offers a new level of comfort to elevate your onboard experience to a truly global standard of luxurious travel. Enjoy our new spacious private cabins complete with plush, high quality fittings and en suite; on-call Cabin Steward Service and in-cabin menu. In our newly refurbished, world-class carriages, by day is a private lounge with a movable table and two ottomans, offering plenty of room to entertain or simply relax and enjoy the journey. By night your private cabin converts to your choice of comfortable double or twin beds with quality bedding. All en suites are equipped with premium fittings, full size shower, vanity with cupboard space, mirror and toilet facilities. An oversized panoramic window in your cabin offers you a unique perspective on the ever-changing Australian landscape.
Gold Service the compact Twin Berth Sleeper Cabins offer a comfortable three seater lounge, converting to an upper and lower sleeping berth at night. Including fresh sheets, bath towels, pillows, doonas and complimentary toiletries. Twin Berth Sleeper Cabins have private en suite facilities with a hide-away compact toilet, wash basin and shower. Single Berth Sleeper Cabins feature a comfortable lounge chair and foot rest by day and a single level sleeping berth by night. Cabins are fitted with a wash basin. Showers and toilets are located at either end of the Gold Service carriage.
Red Service for even the most economical level of travel, these day/nighter seats are two-abreast reclining chairs that can swivel to face each other if you’d like to socialize. Shower and toilet facilities available at the end of your carriage.

The Chairman's Carriage is the pride of Great Southern Rail's fleet. Accommodates up to eight guests with two double bedrooms sharing two-way bathroom and two twin cabins with adjacent bathroom facilities, generous lounge with CD player, DVD and video entertainment, private dining room, fully-equipped kitchen. Guests dine either in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant or within The Chairman's Car dining room with meals prepared by your own dedicated chef.
Sir John Forrest Carriage is named after the explorer made famous for the first crossing of Western Australia by land in 1870. Accommodates up to six guests with one double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, two twin cabins with ensuite facilities, additional bathroom, kitchenette/ bar and generous lounge area, leather lounges and large picture windows, big screen television, video/ DVD and powerpoint screening facilities, ideal for meetings.
