The U.S. Virgin Islands are a popular vacation destination for many. It doesn’t matter why you’re traveling or what type of vacation you take, because the beautiful and serene Virgin Islands have something for everyone. If you’re looking for romance and splendor, you can visit the islands for your honeymoon or even plan your entire wedding right there in the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are many different islands to choose from, so you will need to consider each one and what it has to offer for your vacation needs.

Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas are the main and most popular islands to visit when you travel here, but there is also Water Island, which is very historically distinct, along with other minor islands that surround the main ones. The total area is just less than 134 square miles, and there are many nicknames for these islands. If you choose to go by the nicknames, then St. Thomas, known as Rock City, will be your entertainment choice while St. John will be your choice for romance and weddings, as it is dubbed ‘Love City’.

The Virgin Islands were settled by native tribes, and then were named in 1493 by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the new world. The islands floated around in the world for many years, being controlled by Spain, England, Denmark, France, Norway, and now the U.S. In 1672, notably, the Danish settled on St. Thomas. They then settled St. John in 1694 and bought St. Croix from France in 1733. In 1754, they were named the Danish-Westindian Islands, and they remained a popular choice for battling over territory for almost 200 more years. In 1917, a deal was finally reached to sell the islands to the U.S., and citizenship was granted to inhabitants 10 years later in 1927.

These islands, like all of the major Caribbean Islands, boast beautiful white sand beaches, pristine turquoise waters, and many amenities and luxuries that are sure to take your breath away and leave you coming back and wanting more every single time that you visit. There is nothing more wonderful than being able to get away to an island paradise, and when you choose the U.S. Virgin Islands, you don’t even have to worry about leaving the country. Many people take vacations here every year, and each island has its own appeal. However, if you want to see it all you can stay for a week or two and go island hopping, allowing you to get a glimpse of everything that the U.S. Virgin Islands has to offer.
